Since
1978, Venray (a town in the Netherlands) has been the home of the folk dance
group, Opanka. Opanka’s objective is to promote folk dancing in general. The
group does not focus on one country in particular, but learns and performs
dances from all over the world. Out of the group of dancers who dance for their
own pleasure, a group was formed to perform dances from a specific country or
region for public entertainment.
The
performance of dances from a specific country or region lasts approximately 15
minutes. The group dances in costumes, which are partly original and partly
copies of original costumes, made by the members themselves.
