Dances from (former) Yugoslavia

The name of the folk dance group Opanka is based on the Balkan dance-shoes, opanks.

These are flat, leather shoes with a plaited top. Often they have a curled toe. The dance steps and dance figures of the countries of the former Yugoslavia have been playfully and cheerfully choreographed by Gerry Penris.

Names of the dances: Ja Isprosih, Poskok, Ti Mome, Oj Devojko, Durdevka, Igrale se Delije, Officirsko Kolo, Lajkovacko Kolo, Volim u kolu igrati. For this program, the dance group members made the costumes themselves, based on the original costumes of the regions Vojvodina and Serbia.
